The end of the week. The end of the month.
The beginning of the weekend!
I've taken the day off, so after I run some errands in the morning, I plan on starting my weekend. You'll find me in my usual weekend place by late afternoon. Sitting in my rocking chair on the back deck. Drink in hand and either making music myself or listening to something good on the stereo.
Let's get started!

Robin & Linda Williams - Old Plank Road

  • Erica Wheeler - Maryland County Road

  • It's going to be a great day!

For some reason this song was stuck in my head all morning. Funny, I haven't listened to it for some time. Perhaps it's a sign. I have to admit, so far - it has been a great day!

This cut is from a sampler cd from Waterbug Records. I've always enjoyed their samplers. They are a great way to hear some music you may not have been familliar with.

I hope your day will be great. This may help.

'Tis an ill wind that blows

The Gulf coast has had a mighty rough huricane season this year. Do what you can to help them out. Today's files are in honor of the people of LA (Lower Alabama), Mississippi, Louisiana, and East Texas. They are a resilient lot.

The first file was sent to me by Dale. Kef (David Keffer) is from St. Paul, Minnesota, and has been the MC/DJ for Coca-Cola's Spring Break destinations for several years. From Daytona Beach to Panama City to one of the largest single Spring Break gatherings in the country, Coca-Cola Beach South Padre Island, Texas. This cut currently holds the number 2 "Top Tracks" position on LAST.FM

    Kef - Evangeline

East Texas Roadhouse Queen, Marcia Ball will be at the National Folk Festival held this year (and the next 3 years) in Richmond, Virginia.

Marcia Ball - That's Enough of that Stuff

Kris Delmhorst. This is from her 3rd CD "Songs For A Hurricane".

    Georgia on my mind

I've had Georgia on my mind most of the afternoon. I've got lots of good memories from Georgia. Norman Blake comes to mind every time I think about red clay. Norman Blake and his wife Nancy live in Rising Fawn. It's a little town in northwest Georgia near the Alabama line. Aside from being one of the best studio session guitarists, He and Nancy play obscure old songs with the passion of historians, the souls of mountain folk, and unequalled musicianship.

    It all started when...

This is all new to me. Out of the blue I got a call this past weekend from a voice from the past. I haven't heard from Dale for over 20 years. His first question when I picked up the phone was "Did you used to live in a blue school bus?". In a way that got this whole thing started. He passed my contact info on to another good friend that I had lost track of some years back. Joey says he's been listening to a cassette tape we had made together in the bus twenty-some years ago.

A whole flood of memories, good friends, good times and good tunes, has washed over me for the past week. So once again...

The Old Blue Bus is now boarding.
